Top romantic accommodations for couples on vacation

Just because it’s in the middle of September, doesn’t mean you don’t have a reason to plan a romantic getaway for you and your partner. Having a little bit of romance even when it’s not Valentine’s Day actually makes it more special, so don’t be afraid to rekindle the flames or dare to jump into a new and exciting love affair.

Sometimes though, it can prove to be difficult to set the mood in a commercial hotel or a crowded resort filled with sunbathing octogenarians and kids running around with plastic shovels. This is precisely the reason why we decided to scour the world for the best romantic inns you and your partner can check out.

We’ve also added some resorts to the list for couples who love being in the water; enjoying some fun under the sun may just be the key to getting couples out of their routine or perhaps a slump they’ve been having. We tried including accommodations that will suit all types of travelers; from ancient castles to cosy inns in the mountains, and accommodations in wine regions (what could be more romantic than a little wine during your special holiday?).

Here are ten places we think you could always use as an excuse to pack your bags and unleash the Don Juan in you.

INN OF THE FIVE GRACES

The rooms at the Inn of the Five Graces will no doubt leave a distinct imprint in your memory if you do decide to make your way to Santa Fe. Not only are the suites spacious and opulent, their whimsical designs will certainly be a stark contrast to the beige walls you’re probably used to finding in hotels. Here, you have colorful murals, fireplaces designed in the kiva style, decadent fabrics from the Middle East and parts of Asia, and in case you were wondering, that headboard on the bed is hand stitched.

Granted, the rates here are slightly higher compared to other accommodations, but you certainly get your money’s worth from all the extra services that you’re entitled to during your stay. These include walking tours, delicious breakfasts, some wine and cheese during the afternoon and delectable gourmet snacks that you can find right inside your room. If you’re interested, the Inn of the Five Graces is situated behind the capitol building, and is just a short walk from the plaza, where you can find lots of shops and galleries as well.

MILLIKEN CREEK INN AND SPA

Romance is the order of the day here at Milliken Creek Inn and Spa, and it is evident in the inn’s overall look and feel. The inn, which can be found in the Napa valley, has a dozen suites where guests can stay and wake up to fresh cut orchids; soft, comfortable beds; and very elegant bathrooms. For even more pampering, you can check out the spa and sign up for a massage or a treatment. The scenic view of the Napa River also adds to the inn’s appeal.

Guests staying here can count on gourmet breakfasts in the morning; daily wine receptions accompanied by cheese, of course; port services during the evenings; and also French products in the bath. If you’re planning an itinerary well in advance, we suggest going to their website and clicking on the section dedicated to romantic adventures you can check out in Napa.

CHARLOTTE INN

For American travelers who want to spend a romantic getaway in England but don’t want to be bothered to get on a plane, you can just make your way to the Charlotte Inn located in Martha’s Vineyard and instantly feel like you’ve been transported to England in the 19th century. The inn’s architectural history dates back quite a few years actually, all the way back to good old 1964. The staff here at the Charlotte Inn is among the best you will find in the entire island and provide excellent service to guests. It really is hard not to get carried away with the romantic ambience once you arrive.

The Charlotte Inn has 25 rooms decorated with beautiful, period furniture. It doesn’t matter which room you pick because you’re guaranteed to have a very comfortable stay. It also doesn’t hurt that the rooms are quite stylish and reflect the attention to detail that the designers had while constructing them. LITTLE PALM ISLAND RESORT AND SPA

The Little Palm Island Resort sits on an island situated near Little Torch Key in Florida. The area measures a mere five acres and is an ideal destination for couples who want a bit of privacy. Picture yourself standing on an empty beach by the lagoon, the wind blowing in your face, the sun and sand inviting you for a cool dip in the water. Now, get on a seaplane and head off to the resort to turn this mental picture into reality.

There are a total of 30 bungalows that guests in the island can choose from. Inside the suites, you will find furniture made of dark wood, imposing chandeliers, and four poster beds complete with a mosquito netting to protect you from unwanted bites in the middle of the night. It may also delight the ladies to know that there are his and hers bathrooms in the bungalows, so they can feel free to roll out their beauty kits and set up their hair dryers, lotions, and other essentials (high five!). The bathrooms also have claw foot tubs, and there are outdoor showers for post beach excursions. If you don’t feel like going out, simply pull down the heavy curtains and snuggle in bed all day.
