Best ski resorts around the globe

Some people might prefer the sun, sand, and water but a lot of people also have fun in the cold, snowy slopes this season. Here are some of the best that we know of.

Early snow

If you are looking for the best skiing resort early in the winter season, the best place you can visit will be the Whistler-Blackcomb just around 120 kilometers from Vancouver in British Columbia. As early as November, the region is getting an average of 138 cm of snow.

Whistler is 7,150 feet high while Blackcomb is slightly higher at 7,480 feet. The mountain resort has around 8,000 acres,  a 1.6 kilometer vertical drop, and a wide array of terrain where you can get a good dose of adventure and relaxation.

The layout of the ski resorts are excellent covered by 33 snow lifts which you can use to get to almost anywhere you want to go at the resort.

Budget-friendly ski resorts

If you have a tight budget but still don’t want to miss having fun in the snow, saving for the trip a few months before might help. There are budget ski resorts that can fit your way of spending. Here are some ski resorts which will not hurt so much in the pocket:

Andorra

Andorra is just between Spain and France when you look at the map. There are three popular resorts in this corner of the globe for the budget conscious skiing enthusiasts. You have a choice between Soldeu, Pal Arinsal, or Pas de la Casa.

Soldeu is very popular ski destination for its very relaxed environment. You also get to the slopes by riding a modern gondola.  Pas provides the highest peak for the skiing travellers in Andorra.  You can find budget accommodation easily in this town near the French border. Pal-Arinsal is populated by permanent residents all year round welcoming beginner thru intermediate skilled skiers.

Bulgaria

The resorts you will find in Bulgaria are perfect for beginners and for those who are slightly moving up the skill ladder. The ski hire, lift passes, and ski lessons are pretty much affordable even for those who need to hold back on spending a bit but want to learn the ins and outs of skiing.

Bulgaria offers good wines at very cheap prices. This is not the place though if you are looking for gourmet food but the basics are good enough. If you plan to go to Bulgaria, you can choose between Bansko, Borovets, or Pamprovo ski resorts which are on top of the tight budget list.

Bansko is situated in a quaint old tow and is considered as among the most developed ski resorts in the region. Pamporovo is just by the Snejanka mountain lined with pine trees and thick greens. Borovets is the biggest, oldest but most popular of the three options that we lined up for Bulgaria.

France

France might come a bit more expensive but it’s a great skiing destination if you want great scenery, the best skiing conditions, and things you can do after you had your dose of gliding down the slopes.

There is a long list of ski holiday options but you can save yourself the hassle and trim it down to the Three Valleys, Chamonix and Argentiere, and Paradiski.

The Three Valleys consists actually of four valleys. You have the three major valleys Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens, and Orelle. There are also smaller skiing valleys around the area like the La Tania, Mottaret, St. Martin de Belleville, and Brides Les Bains.

Paradiski gives you Les arcs which is ideal for serious adventure seekers, La Plagne, and Les Deux.

Chamonix is set just near the foot of the famous Mont Blanc. Expert skiers will be able to appreciate the spectacular variety of the snowy mountain.

Below the Three Valleys is the Brides Les Bains. It is a famous spa town a few minutes from Meribel. This spot offers a great night life with a good line of night clubs, casinos, and bars.

Best destinations for skiing and other activities

If you are looking to maximize your time and money, you might want to plan the best skiing holiday plus some good, clean fun on the side. The ski resorts in Austria offer this kind of ski holiday. With most of the country covered by the Alps, there is no need to ask about the great slopes and great scenery.

Kitzbuhel will expose you to the charm and tradition of Austria plus 158 kilometers of piste. It is most famous for the Hahnenkamm Downhill Race.

Ischgl is in the center of the Silvretta mountains and is another paradise for ski enthusiasts. The highest point of the area is the Palinkopf at 2,865 meters. Try the big run down to the village which is practically a 1,400 meter rush down the mountain.

St. Anton-am-Arlberg is among the best ski resort you can go to anywhere in the world. The conditions are perfect for an unforgettable skiing holiday. If you are an intermediate skier, do not miss the Valluga which is one of the longest run for intermediate skiers in Europe. If you  are more of an advance and are looking for uncrowded  skiing slopes., checkout the Lech and the Zurs. Beginners can try out the Rendl or the St. Christoph.

Zell am See is a good Austria ski destination for skiers and non-skiers a like. You can get a good dose of intermediate slopes and a line of great activities for those who do not ski.
