Kidnapping of tourist in Acapulco, Mexico

On the 30th of September 2010, Thursday a tourist bus was abducted by an armed gang in Acapulco, Mexico. The incident resulted in the kidnapping of around 20 men.

This incident of kidnapping of 20 tourists happened during the Thursday afternoon at a very posh area of Acapulco, around which a number of tourist hotels, discos and shops are located. The place is located by the beach line and is extremely popular amongst the tourists as well as the local public.

The tourists who have been kidnapped came from a western state of Michoacan. Michoacan is yet another major force trying to gain control over the region surrounded by Acapulco, it is also a point of drug war in Mexico.

Soon after the incident, police was not in any position to comment anything.

It is not something new for Acapulco, as the drug gangs have been trying to take over the strategic coastal port of Acapulco. They keep on terrorizing the resorts because the troops had killed their local cartel kingpin in December 2009.

This violence has been adversely affecting the Mexico tourism industry. The growth of tourism has been hampered to a great extent. Basically, tourism is the most important source of foreign currency for Mexico. And since 2008 the business has battered in Mexico due to global recession. The drug violence in Mexico is the biggest threat for the country and it has lead to the death of more than 29,000 people.
