Travel tips to enjoy dining while abroad
Notice how some restaurants do not have salt and pepper shakers on the table? It’s not always about customer service. It actually has a lot to do with the customs and traditions of the place where you are dining. There are some areas in the world where chefs consider their dishes as perfect and the simple request of some salt and pepper is a big slap to the chef’s ego that might lead to unnecessary trouble. Dining is not only a gastronomical experience but also a cultural one. Here are some dining tips that you can adapt whether you are eating inside or outside of your comfort and time zones:
Study how people order their meals. There are some deli stores where you need to point and tell someone what you want in your sandwich while some are highly advanced that all you need to do is press a few buttons on the touch screen menu and keep your mouth shut. Some places require you to stand in line to get your order while in some places, you just need to sit down and a battalion of waiters will assist you. And we’re just talking about the dining places in English-speaking countries. Imagine the inconvenience of language barriers. Regardless of time zone, the best thing to do is to step back and look at the way people order when they enter the restaurant. When you think you have the hang of it, open the doors and step inside.
Talk simple. While it’s refreshing to be fluent in English in a place where people can hardly understand it, do speak in a simple language when inquiring about the menu. This is not the time to baffle everyone with your super English. Be polite.
No menu? No problem! Some dine-in and take-out places do not have menus. But they do have chalkboards and posters. You can either point to a picture of what you want to order or ask the waiter what those foreign words means. If all else fails, you can simply ask the host to bring you what they think you’ll like but make sure it’s nothing exotic, unless you want it that way of course.
Familiar comfort food. In every cuisine, there are always the familiar ones that you’ve probably tried or heard of before. If you’re dining in an unfamiliar and foreign place and you have no idea what to order, just stick t the things you know or have heard of before. Forget getting exotic. It’s better to have a taste of something familiar in an exotic land than tasting something traumatizing and ruining your whole vacation.
When in doubt, translate. You’re lucky if the restaurant has an English menu, otherwise, you might end up ordering something you don’t want or, God forbid, you don’t know. The best way to handle a foreign menu is by asking the waiter to assist you. However, if no one can translate or explain the list of items for you to choose, that’s where a traveler’s guidebook comes in handy. If you don’t have one but you have a smartphone, log on and have the Internet translate for you.
Breath in, breathe out. Don’t be too hard on yourself and don’t take it on the staff when you’re having a hard time ordering for food. It’s nobody’s fault, really. Even if you mispronounced so many words on the menu, there’s always a part two. So just enjoy your food and immerse yourself in a fine gastronomical and cultural experience.

Dream South Beach Boutique Hotel to Open in November
Opening in November 2010, Dream South Beach will be the newest addition to South Beach’s Collins Avenue, directly behind the former Versace Mansion. The fashion-forward boutique hotel offers 108 guestrooms, dining by Michelin-starred Chef Geoffrey Zakarian, an intimate rooftop pool lounge named “Groovedeck” with views of the Atlantic, and a full-service spa. With a creative concept spearheaded by Michael Czysz’s design house Architropolis and interiors lead Kelly Ogden, Dream South Beach embodies the transformation of two iconic Art Deco South Beach hotels, the Tudor Hotel and Palmer House.
Historically serving as a buffer between the two hotel buildings, the Central Courtyard now serves as the main entrance of Dream South Beach. The promenade is lined with wall fountains and the pathway is illuminated by a custom in-laid acrylic floor pattern under-lit with atmospheric mood lighting. Nestled among the bamboo grove sits an 8-foot tall sculpture of Ganesha, the keeper of entrances, custom-designed for Dream by artist Miguel Rodríguez. The historic Palmer House lobby serves as Dream South Beach’s reception area. The Tudor lobby has been transformed into Dream South Beach’s restaurant space. All public areas in the renovated hotel feature custom-crafted furniture and lighting fixtures, elements that assist in evoking a surrealistic “dream state.” With the transformation of two iconic hotels, Dream South Beach combines a mix of design cues ranging from modern Moroccan to late ’70s gloss.
Dream South Beach features 108 guestrooms including the resplendent Sun House Duplex Penthouse, two Duplex Sun Suites, and nine Junior Suites. Upon entering the room, intricately carved, modernized French-Moroccan doors are back-lit by cool blue light to create a mystifying jewel box effect. Through the doors guests will find the bed perfectly centered with accents of prisms and touches of blue and gold. While the doors serve an aesthetic purpose, they also create an intimate changing area that provides private access to the bathroom and shower.
No attention to detail has been spared as all rooms come fully-equipped with 42-inch Panasonic Plasma TV, Skype- and Bluetooth-enabled smart phones, high-speed broadband Internet access and Wi-Fi, iPod docking system, pre-loaded iPods and DVD players, 380-plus-thread-count Egyptian cotton duvets and sheets, plush terry bathrobes, Etro bath amenities, in-room safes and a fully-stocked private bar. Guests also have full access to Spa’D, the onsite ayurvedic spa at Dream as well as unlimited access to concierge services that include but are not limited to dry cleaning service, same-day laundry, valet service, complimentary shopping services, and daily maid/turndown service. Check out the different Chinatowns across the world
With a history that dates back more than 5,000 years ago, it’s no wonder that China’s culture is so rich and diverse. There is so much to learn about this massive country that serves as the home to over a billion people. Travelers who have been to China can keep coming back for years on end and still be amazed to discover new things they didn’t know about the country before. But let’s face it, not all of us who want to pack our bags and schlep them to China can actually afford it. Fortunately for there rest of mankind, the Chinese held on tight to their culture so much so that wherever they went, they made sure that they will maintain their traditions and maintain their distinct identity.
Lots of countries nowadays have their own mini Chinatown where you can see, hear, and taste everything Chinese. In the air, you can smell the hot broth emanating from the noodle shops; or drool over the roast duck hanging behind restaurant windows, their skin glistening from all that oil and fat. There’s a prevalence of red and gold in the community, and signs are posted in two languages. Come to think of it, a lot of people begin to speak in a different language, and suddenly you don’t understand what’s being said in the conversation you’re eavesdropping on.
For those who can’t afford plane tickets but want a taste of Chinese culture, here are a couple of Chinatowns you might like to visit if you happen to be in the area. If by chance you plan on going on a short trip in February, you can visit any of these colorful places and join them in ushering in another year as they celebrate Chinese New Year.
CANADA – TORONTO
Malaysia may have two, but get this—the city of Toronto in Canada has seven Chinatowns to choose from. If you’re Canadian and you recently discovered you’re of Chinese descent, visiting all seven of them would be a good way to tap into those roots. You can celebrate the Chinese in you by going to Chinatown and immersing yourself in everything Chinese. The main Chinatown in Toronto was established about half a century ago way back in the 1960s.
Around the 1980s, the Chinese community occupying Canada’s Grater Toronto Area moved their settlement and migrated to different suburbs in Scarborough, Richmond Hill, North York, Missisauga, and Markham. Here, you will find shopping malls much like the ones in the bustling island of Hong Kong. For those who prefer to haggle their way and appreciate a good bargain, street stalls are also present offering almost everything from clothes to shoes to accessories and stuff for your home such as porcelain figurines, clocks, pillowcases, etc.
UNITED STATES – NEW YORK
The first Chinese residents to occupy New York arrived in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This was around the latter part of the 19th century, in an attempt to escape from the discrimination that they experienced in the West Coast. By the time the 1980s rolled around, Manhattan’s Chinatown has grown so large that it overshadowed the one in San Francisco, which was previously known as the largest Chinatown established outside of Asia. Follow Mott Street long enough and you will come across a hole in the wall that sells the best bowl of beef brisket noodle soup in town. Even on a bitter winter night, one sip of this broth is enough to provide warmth from your lips all the way down to your toes.
Aside from the one in Manhattan, New York has other Chinatowns scattered all over the five boroughs. In Queens, you can make your way to Elmhurst or perhaps Flushing, which was the home of the ever famous and always fabulous Nanny Fine. It’s interesting to note that the Chinatown in Flushing has managed to surpass the one in Manhattan when in comes to size. If you happen to be in Brooklyn, you can visit Avenue U or you can also go to 8th Avenue.
The entire area occupied by this country measures only about 700 kilometers. If you think about it, that’s actually smaller than some Asian cities. But interestingly enough, this tiny island is home to different cultures including Chinese. With the onset of globalization, Singapore has now become highly westernized, and on a tour around the city, travelers will find familiar names and images they’re used to back home.
The Chinatown in Singapore used to be the hub for the first settlers in the island that originated from China. There are actually a number of Asian neighborhoods in Singapore, and Chinatown is one of the more distinct towns. If you’re interested in learning about the people who dared the odds and set out for a place that was entirely new to them, you can pop by the Heritage Center. For those whose main food groups include candy, pizza and chips, you might want to saunter over to the Food Street and introduce your palate to a whole new world of gastronomic delights. From the common dishes such as fried rice, to the more bizarre snacks like chicken feet, Food Street has them all.
At the Night Market, an assortment of items is made available to visitors who wish to shop from lucky charms to jewelry, and even Chinese pajamas embroidered with bamboo designs. These places all help in preserving China’s heritage despite the fact that a lot of Chinese people made the decision to live abroad.
In contrast to the modern landscape in this up and coming country, Chinatown offers a more historical backdrop, with old buildings that serve as relics of years that have gone by.
AUSTRALIA – MELBOURNE
If you’re thinking that all you’ll find in the land down under are kangaroos hopping around in the outback, you’re sorely mistaken. Melbourne is actually home to the oldest ever Chinatown that you will find in the whole world. According to records, this town was established over 150 years ago, back in 1854, during the time of the Victorian Gold Rush.
If you’re particularly fond of dragons, you’re in luck because you can view the longest Chinese dragon in the world right here. The Millenium Dai Loong Dragon is so long, it actually has a hundred dragon legs. Every year, it takes 200 people join together to wake the Millenium Dai Loong Dragon in time for the celebrations and march him down the street during the parade on Chinese New Year.
MALAYSIA – KUALA LUMPUR
Malaysia’s capital actually rose to become a busy city with the help of some Chinese settlers around 160 years ago, during the 1850s. Chinese tin miners made their way to Malaysia and founded the city that could eventually be the country’s capital. The previous jungle settlement transformed into a center for the country’s mining industry for tin that has flourished and remains strong until today. Even now, the Chinese continue to play a dominant role in the different ethnic groups in Malaysia; they also have control of quite a large share of the loot in Malaysia’s commerce.
If you’re ever in Malaysia, ask around on how to get to Jalan Petaling and you’ll find yourself smack in the middle of Chinatown. If they give you directions on how to get to Jalan Petaling, don’t worry because you’ll wind up in the same place. Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown enjoys a high popularity among food lovers and of course, shoppers. The many food stalls set up in the area offer delectable treats, some of which may not be familiar to western travelers who are visiting Asia for the first time.
Shopping at the night market is simply a joy. If you plan on cooking your own Chinese dish, you can come here and stock up on some fresh produce that can sustain you for the next couple of days. Missed that recent movie because you were sick in bed? Don’t worry, for a couple of bucks, you can get a copy of it from the stalls selling counterfeit DVDs. Other shops sell Rolexes that won’t burn a hole in your pocket (a closer look might reveal it to be a Folex, but who’s gonna know?). For the ladies, you can get that crocodile skin purse for half the price than it normally would if you know how to haggle. Or if you want a new outfit, where else would you go but here?
UNITED STATES – SAN FRANCISCO
Every year, San Francisco hosts a tripped out parade during the New Year. The celebration is held not only to open a new chapter in their lives, but also to attract good luck and good fortune for the year to come. The whole shindig which started around a century and a half ago back in the 1860s, and is considered to be the biggest celebration of Asian culture held outside of Asia. On Chinese New Year, the entire place is filled with music, dancing, food and best of all, good company.
For those who might think that going to Chinatown will land them in some tacky, hyped tourist trap, there is something worthwhile here that travelers can appreciate. For one thing, San Francisco’s Chinatown has a pretty significant role in history. Some years back, this became the refuge of Sun Yat Sen when he was in exile. Those in the literary world can walk the streets of San Francisco and imagine what it was like for writer Amy Tan while she was growing up.
For those who are looking for something fun and unique to try while they’re here, they can walk to Grant Street and check out the tea demonstration. If you enjoyed the experience, you can even shop for some tea afterwards. Here, you can buy some leaves which you can take home and brew in a pot, or you can have some prepared at the store so you can continue on your walk while sipping a cup of Jasmine or Oolong.
MALAYSIA – GEORGETOWN, PENANG
The Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur isn’t the only one that you will find in Malaysia. If you travel to the western coast of the country and make your way to Georgetown in Penang, you’ll find another Chinatown that is also keeps Chinese culture very much alive in these places. Stepping into Penang’s Chinatown, one would definitely get the impression they’re actually in China and not just an area Malaysia. This is one of the biggest Chinatowns that you can visit the world over, not to mention it is also one of the best preserved. Walking down the street, you’re enveloped in various sights and also sounds that remind you of those small cities in China.
A lot of the residents that you will meet here are actually descendants of the Chinese immigrants that came to Penang way back in the colonial era. These immigrants made a living through buying and selling; some of them were traders while others worked as shopkeepers. What’s amazing is that a lot of the original shops constructed back then still stand today, completely intact. What started out as small earnings for these traders and also shopkeepers eventually became big fortunes that benefited later generations.
CANADA – VANCOUVER
We’re back in Canada, and for all the Canadians out there who’ve been longing to go to Hong Kong but are hindered by the oceans of water in between, you might as well settle for the Chinatown in Vancouver because there’s simply nowhere else that comes close. As a testament to this fact, many people have even dubbed this place Hongcouver. In the past years that led to the handover of Hong Kong to China back in 1997, lots of wealthy Chinese immigrants settled in Vancouver. Chinese tourists in Vancouver can even test Mayor Sam Sullivan’s proficiency in Cantonese.
Compared to the Chinatowns you can find in other countries, the one in Vancouver has a more recent history, one that was established around the early part of the 20th century. Other settlers who just recently arrived made their way to Richmond. This suburb is home to some a number of Chinese restaurants that offer delicious, mouth watering dishes that you will remember for days on end. In fact, others consider these restaurants to be the best ones you will find that are outside Hong Kong.
You can also step into a Chinese drugstore and stare in awe at the assortment of herbs on the shelves.

Best boutique hotels in Rio de Janeiro
Brazil equals festivities and thing will even be hotter this coming decade as Rio de Janeiro plays host to the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Summer Olympics in 2016. The hotel scene of Rio has been evolving and it is currently being dominated by French professionals or hoteliers who turned entrepreneurs after being mesmerized by the life in Brazil.
There are quite a number of small French hotels you can choose from ranging from the pricey to the most affordable. We listed down some of our favourite boutique hotels:
Insólito Hotel
Residents and travellers flock Búzios because of its gorgeous beaches and its innate charm. The beaches remain to be isolated and not so developed just like how they were found by Bridge Bardot back in the 1960s. The beauty of the place serves as backdrop for the Insólito established in 2009. Since last year, the boutique hotel founded by Emanuelle Meeus de Clarmont-Tonnerre is among the top choices along the peninsula.
This boutique hotel is situated on the horseshoe-shaped Ferradura Beach protected by rocky cliffs from the open seas. The views from the pool decks are breathtaking as well as from the 12 suites and from the hotel’s restaurant.
The rooms feature a modern design touch with accents of Brazilian art, books, and design pieces.
Insólito is perfect for couples but not really ideal for those having a holiday with their kids. Book the best room by asking for the Guarani Suite. The rates for this French boutique accommodation in Rio starts at around $500 per night.
During peak season, the traffic around Búzios is really bad. For those who can spare some more money, the hotel has a helipad, too.
Santa Teresa
This French boutique hotel also opened in 2009 and has climbed the charts of the best Rio de Janeiro hotels under the guidance of Francois Delort who converted the coffee plantation into a quaint accommodation in the charming neighborhood.
The 2.5 acre property gives visitors access to a nice panorama of gardens, lawns, old buildings, and an incredible pool. Santa Teresa gives travelers 44 rooms to choose from using different Brazilian elements. Checkout the sunset from the Bar dos Casados or the celebrated resto Tereze.
The hotel’s spa is one of Rio’s best and will definitely complete anyone’s Brazilian experience.
The Santa Teresa Hotel is ideal for a family who wants to have a great time on the sands of Brazil. Leblon and Ipanema are 20 minutes away but the hotel is actually a Brazil destination on its own just a few kilometers from the airport.
Prepare around $350 per night for this French boutique accommodation.
La Suite
If you consider yourself a Rio veteran or if you are going to Brazil for your honeymoon, La Suite should be the perfect French-founded establishment for you. Reserve the hotel’s Blue Room featuring a Marilyn Monroe painting by Andy Warhol.
Staying in this hotel will be like staying just next door. Okay, add to the neighbor experience a butler, a private chef, and two cute dogs on a hilltop villa. This property was converted by Francois Xavier Dussol into a romantic nest. The designer mixed eclectic elements to complete the modern Rio ambiance.
It will be advisable to have a map handy since cab drivers are not very familiar with the place yet. Rooms at La Suite start at $350 per night.

5 Airports in U.S. Deal with Bigger Issues other than Flight Interruptions
Airline interruptions are usually a disappointment, and some airports seem to be controversy prone than others. Some airports have bigger problems more than weather disturbances. Talk of garbage, leaky ceilings, cockroaches, and other stuff that might just ruin your experience.
Here are issues from airports with troubles bigger than flight interruptions:
Smelly SJC
It is such a nice thing to hear that San Jose’s Terminal A was newly repaired. So you can help but imagine how clean and fresh the place. However, there’s something that we must know. The airport looks grand but the smell doesn’t say so. A mysterious odor is stinking up the entire new terminal facilities. The smell seems like a combination of a sewer smell and a sweaty sock. It shows that looks can be really deceiving! As of the moment, workers are trying to know what causes the smell, or experience it to believe.
Cockroaches and Rubbish at Denver
We do have strange interest with airline menus, and so when a flight attendant serves something on our trays we feel forced to eat it: however, it seems that it’s better to just have a choice not to eat at the International Airport of Denver. A report from FDA says, Chefs of LSG Sky are cooking in a gross kitchen, name it and they have the things we don’t want to imagine; bacteria, dead cockroaches and a likely quarter for rodents. Now that stuffs are exposed, we’ll presume the spot have been to some extent cleaned up. But for our own peace of mind, we better bring snickers and Doritos!
DFW’s Numerous Roads
Even before reaching the Dallas Fort Worth, a problem will be encountered. Like the whole thing in Texas, their airport’s foundation is huge but actually not necessarily needed. It gives the feeling that it will take ages before someone get into the terminals before having a glimpse of the DFW’s welcome sign. Even though it is an optional, there’s yet a toll needed to pay for passing throughout the area which gives the feeling that the airport is seated on bazillion hectares. Upon reaching the place, it is actually nice looking, but with all the puffing and huffing because of rushing to arrive at the gate to take pleasure of their amenities.
JFK’s indoor Rain
The airport’s terminal is usually dry and warm if believing that a thunderstorm won’t entail a long tarmac delay. Going from JFK’s T3 on board Delta is not the usual dry and warm terminal. The Pan AM Port cares to drop, drip, and leak throughout rainy days, so gorgeous baggies do what they can on the direction of the ceiling to control the weather. A remedy should be done as soon as possible before the terminal becomes a landfill, but as of the moment an umbrella might do so let it be part of your hand carries.
ATL’s Lengthy Walk
For the final pick, is Atlanta’s airport, the Hartsfield-Jackson. As the busiest airport of the world, it does a job well done, but moving pathway is needed for lazy Americans. Yes there are floors in motion underground that serves as a substitute to a train but it is not the real matter. A space enough for moving is the one that matters. A cart is always available, but for sure it will just end up packing it. If you are rushing to catch your flight, the probabilities are high that you cannot literally rush within the airport compounds. Friendly advice, always arrive early.
Despite the problems, we are pretty sure the managements of these airports are doing something to resolve these problems.

When people come home after a relaxing holiday or an adventure filled getaway and reminisce on their recently concluded journey, chances are those people won’t just be looking back at all the exotic food they ate, or the new and exciting activities they took part in. Other hotels invest in giving you all the latest gadgets such as computers and cell phones or even flipped out bathrooms. Then there are other places which offer extremely low rates to attract as much guests as they can. But there is also one other feature in a hotel—and an important one at that—that can sometimes seal the deal when you want to turn that one time guest into a loyal patron: the hotel staff.
If you think about it, they’re the people that your guests see every day, from the moment they have their breakfast in bed to the time they board that cab bound for the airport, so it’s no wonder that other hotels make sure that they hire the right men and women for the job. Having not only efficient but also good looking staff is a pretty big arsenal if you’re going into the hotel business. This taps into the ideal vacation that every person has in mind; you know you’d be lying if you didn’t envision having that witty conversation with a handsome bartender, or a pretty waitress for that matter.
Today, our services will hopefully be useful to those who want a bit of harmless eye candy the next time they go on a holiday. Check out these seven destinations and tell us what you think of their staff. Have a nice trip!
NAME: MONDRIAN LOS ANGELES
LOCATION: California
Pretty people from all parts of the world converge in Los Angeles with the same dream of making it big in Hollywood. With the potential promise of fame, power and fortune, these people will do most anything to make their dreams into reality. A lot of these handsome lads and pretty chicks would give their right arm to land a gig over at the Mondrian Los Angeles hotel, which is a popular area for scouts working for the entertainment industry. Not only casting agents but also studio hotshots have been known to frequent the hotel’s restaurant called Asia de Cuba and also the Skybar, looking for that diamond in the rough that they can help shine and at the same time, rake in the Benjamins.
Because these hopeful actors and actresses never known when the moment will arrive when they’re discovered by a talent scout, they’re always made up and look like a million bucks. Aside from that, you never know when Hugh Grant or Elle Macpherson will decide to drop by, so you can bet that those waitresses who show off their bodacious curves as they serve drinks and cocktails by the pool are always ready for a close up.
What’s good about the staff at the Mondrian Los Angeles is that while they’ve mastered the art of putting on make up, fixing their hair and maintaining good posture, they haven’t forgotten how to provide excellent service to their guests. One too many bratty celebrities has taught these guys to be tireless, resourceful and savvy. The icy vibe that the hotel used to have has also been replaced by a warmer, friendlier atmosphere, which is always good if you want to make a lasting impression.
NAME: PAIA INN
LOCATION: Maui, Hawaii
We’ve gushed about men twice so far in our list, so we think it’s time to share something for the guys out there. If what you’re looking for is comfortable accommodation and the sight of pretty girls any which way you turn your head, then get a load of the women staff members at the Paia Inn in Maui. These staffers fit the bill of the hot surfer chick which means they all have glowing tanned skin and tousled blond hair. In the mornings, you can find them right at the beach hanging ten, while during the afternoons, you can feel free to walk up to them and challenge them to a friendly game of Ping Pong. With such erm, friendly, staff working at the Paia Inn, it really is no wonder why famous celebrities such as Owen Wilson have been spotted here having a wonderful time, chilling out on the patio.
What’s good about the staff here at Paia is that they’re not afraid to get wet and wild. In fact, they can even share with you some inside information on the most ideal surf breaks. They can also be counted on to help you get ready to go paddleboarding at the bay, and let you know if the conditions are right for windsurfing. Oh, and make sure you mean business when you challenge the staff members to a Ping Pong match. Don’t think you can just take it easy, because these ladies won’t be afraid to show you who’s the boss, and you can bet that they keep score.
NAME: RITZ CARLTON IN SOUTH BEACH
LOCATION: Miami, Florida
You will never run out of six pack abs and burly biceps to ogle at and drool over in Miami’s South Beach. But if you want some harmless physical contact with some hot staffers, might we suggest booking a room at the Ritz Carlton and spend your days getting tanned by— who else?—the staff, of course! Okay, here’s the drill: the Ritz Carlton has special staffers called tanning butlers whose main job is to administer tanning lotion on their guests by the poolside between the hours of 11am and 3pm. Which means that when the clock strikes 11am all the way up to 3pm, you’ll see these beefy guys armed with holsters containing Evian mist, sunglasses, and tanning lotions patrolling the poolside, checking to see if anyone needs some tanning lotion rubbed on their backs.
If you’re wondering if these tanning butlers are really all that, here’s something we learned: one of their butlers recently landed a modeling gig in Milan for the famous label, Armani through a talent scout. Think about it. That new model on the runway? Yep, those are the same hands he was rubbing up and down your back a couple of months ago.
The staff at the Ritz may not resemble the butler Cadbury in Richie Rich, but they still are ladies and gentlemen of their own right, and guests are expected to reciprocate the politeness expressed towards them. Do remember to thank them after your rubdown, and say please for when you want one.
NAME: LUKULA SELOUS
LOCATION: The Selous Game Reserve located in Tanzania
Travelers who visit the camp of Lukula Selous can be sure to take home memories of being able to stand very close to a pride of fearsome lions that all look like they could eat you up in one single bite. Here, you can also travel through rivers infested with crocodiles. Don’t worry though, because you’ll be accompanied by the camp’s very own guides who are as knowledgeable about these animals as those guys you see on the National Geographic Channel. As a matter of fact, one of these guides used to be a professional hunter, so there’s no doubt that he knows the different habits and attitudes of these animals. Their group of guides also includes a model for Calvin Klein, which kind of makes it hard to fix your specs on the animals before you.
At night, you can stare at the guides dreamily while having dinner by candlelight and listening to their adventure filled stories of scary hippo charges or perhaps a run-ins with some poachers.
What’s good about the guides here is that underneath that gorgeous mop of hair is a brain chock filled with information about nature. Ask the guide the genus and also species of each animal you encounter on your hike and most likely, they can provide you with the right answer straightaway. Showing of their more cultured side, they’re not at all overwhelmed when faced with an extensive wine list, they speak multiple languages (read: six!) and have an internal compass that’s almost fool proof.
NAME: THE STANDARD
LOCATION: New York City
A little tip from us to you: don’t be too surprised if some of the guests at NYC’s The Standard turn out to be quite the exhibitionists, as what will be apparent when you behold some of them through the full length windows getting pretty busy. As a matter of fact, we kind of understand why. You can’t really blame these people considering that they’re surrounded by these gorgeous doormen in skinny ties that have an uncanny resemblance to Adrian Grenier. And not just that; when you approach the front desk, you better be holding on to something before looking their front desk staff in the eye.
The Standard usually goes through frequent staff changes because a lot of them are musicians who are looking for a way to pay the bills while they’re off tour. Others are models who also work as DJs when they don’t have any current gigs in the fashion world (no wonder they look goooood!). This means that the guy who helped you with your bags today could very well be the same guy you’re watching on HBO next summer.
What’s good about the staff is that beneath the good looks, they’re very efficient, friendly, and have an extensive knowledge when it comes to the night life of this exciting city. If you want to check out underground hip hop gigs or perhaps a warehouse party, all you have to do is ask and they’ll point you in the right direction. They’re pretty handy when it comes to more conventional questions, too. For example, they’re updated on which restaurants just opened in town. An added bonus that will definitely make you love their staff even more, they can call their buddy the doorman and give them a heads up that you’ll be joining the party.
NAME: FAENA HOTEL + UNIVERSE
LOCATION: Buenos Aires in Argentina
If you’ve noticed that almost everyone in Buenos Aires is either beautiful or very beautiful, then you shouldn’t be surprised to behold the smoldering looks of the women staff members working at the Faena Hotel. The hotel’s design may seem a bit over the top for some people, taking into account that it is actually decorated with red velvet and also white unicorns, but we think guests will all agree that when it comes to the staff’s inherent beauty, there can be no such thing as over the top.
What’s good about the staff at the Faena Hotel is that there’s more to them than intriguing eyes and softly curved lips. The hotel holds regular tango shows that have become quite popular all over Argentina. This is also one of the flashiest tango shows that you will be able to watch here. Not to be left behind are the musicians who are all dressed in tuxedos. The performance may include a bit of female nudity, but everything is done artistically and you simply won’t be able to deny the talent of these amazing dancers once you sit back and watch them perform.
NAME: PALMS CASINO RESORT
LOCATION: Las Vegas in Nevada
At the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, you don’t have to look far to find beautiful people. From the minute you enter the casino, you can start ogling the clerk at the check in counter, and as you go about your day, you can enjoy the beautiful view of slender bunnies in scant outfits as they deal the playing cards over at Playbo Club; or the cocktail waitresses whose legs seem to go on forever, as she serves you a fruity drink down by the poolside.
Aside from having very attractive staff, the Palms Casino Hotel also has the proper stuff to get that party going on. One of their suites is furnished with a rotating bed (did we mention that it measures eight feet and is also rounded?) and also mirrored ceilings. At the premises, there are a total of seven clubs that you can visit so you can go bar hopping right at your very own hotel. The mini bars not only have the some of the best liquor, they also include some sex toys to spice up your evenings and condoms for those who forgot to pack some in their luggage.

A recent survey conducted among travel agencies in the United States reveals that 18 percent of those traveling for leisure purposes admit to having taken their beloved pets along with them on vacation during this year. But travelers also agree that while it may be fun to have their pets tag along with them, it’s also important for them that their buddies don’t feel sorely out of place.

Modern hotels now include pets in their staff and yes, that means these guys are actually on the workers’ payroll. Their job is to essentially make your pet feel at home during their stay in a particular hotel, much like how a guest relations officer makes sure you have everything you need and could possibly look for during your stay. This way, the hotel makes sure that you and your furry friend will have a fun vacation. Some of these in house animal residents actually enjoy a kind of celebrity status in their hotels. And knowing how pampered they are actually makes us a bit jealous; yep, these pets are definitely living the good life.
If you’re interested in taking your own four legged pal on a trip, check out the following pet friendly places:

At the age of 15, this regal cat can be considered as the feline Lady Gaga, which no doubt leaves a big impression on the guests staying at the hotel. Those who are looking to book themselves and their pets at the Algonquin Hotel can choose from any of the 174 rooms allotted for guests. The annual celebration of Matilda’s birthday which falls on August 11 can
be quite the event that guests will enjoy. The birthday bash is pretty much like a formal ball and every year, proceeds go to a lucky animal rescue charity. This tradition is done to honor the memory of Hamlet, who in the 1930’s wandered inside the hotel from New York’s busy streets and was the first ever Algonquin cat.
If you will notice, the blue eyed Ragdoll cat actually prefers humans to feline companions some of the time. There are instances when she can be pretty aloof around the other cats, but that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t spare a little time for her fans. Unlike other common house cats, Matilda has an assistant (a person, of course), by the name of Alice de Almeida. With Alice’s help, Matilda is able to check her messages sent to her email address, update her status on Facebook, and occasionally send out a Tweet or two.
PETIQUETTE: If you’re always pampering yourself and want only the best for your feline friend, the Algonquin Hotel has all the right stuff. If you join the program called Algonquin Loves Pets, your cat (or dog) gets a purrrsonalized greeting letter welcoming them to the hotel and many helpful tips on how your pet can get the ultimate Matilda treatment. Inside every room, you will find water bowls for your pets and also some pet food. They also lay out floor mats, and a litter box for when your kitty needs to attend to some dirty business.
If you call in advance, the hotel will accommodate your request for some specialty foods or perhaps toys just in case you left Furrball’s favorite doll at home. The hotel staff can also help you schedule grooming appointments or get a nanny who can take care of your pet while you’re out for a romantic dinner. Room prices start at around US 329 dollars.
